Girl

She's pretty fun sometimes :)

17.5.13

Girl night

Mom and Miss Lucy had a date last Saturday. Among other things, a seesaw was involved. (Mom may or may not have regretted the seesaw incident; Miss Lu thought the whole thing was fantastic.)

Yard work

I mowed the lawn for the first time since the car accident. And Miss Lu and I spent hours sprucing and weeding. Nick built the garden beds and prepped the soil. We have spring fever bad!

Snow day!

School's out early, and we are outside in our Alabama blizzard. Lucy's teaching Calvin about the joys of snowball fights :)

Happy birthday to me

The day after we returned from Texas, I turned ... older. Dina invited us out to her house for dinner, and Nick made a cake. Lucy provided decorative signage throughout the house. Good times abounded.

At the library

I love going to library time with Lucy's class. I love getting to know the kids in her class, I love reading to them, I love making them laugh with silly voices, I love checking in their books, and I love the extra grin and hug Miss Lucy gives me when she sees me there.

I love teaching the kids how to look up books they are interested in on the computer, and seeing their eyes get big when they find out there are twenty books about Transformers in the library. I love it when they start to understand how to find a book by author, or how to look in a certain section for books on animals.

But mostly, I love seeing how comfortable Miss Lu is when she's busily reading a book. At the beginning of the year, she was sounding out little BOB book readers. And now she's checking out chapter books (usually something in the rainbow fairy series), finding a spot, and diving in.

Awesome.

Sketch-o-rama

Miss Lucy and I had a sketching party this morning, focused not on making a perfect drawing, but on drawing what we actually saw instead of what we thought should be there. She drew me, and I drew her. Very fun!

Come let us anew

I don't have any grand goals or expectations for 2012. But there are a few things I'm trying to include in my life this year.

1. Two vegetarian dinners / week
2. Meditate 10 min. a day, consistently
3. Read more poetry

Ye olde Webbs

Over Christmas, Mr. Nick and I participated in a fundraiser dinner for the local theater (Los Alamos Little Theater). It was medieval dinner theater at its best: singing, skits, and many jokes regarding the private bar the next room over (it was held at the Elks Lodge). We really had fun.

Afterwards, we stopped by the church to pick up Lucy and Calvin (our friends the Maxwells graciously took them to the ward dinner that night) and my friend Sam was still snapping family photos. So Nick and I jumped in for a few shots of us in our costumes. Enjoy!

Overlook Park

After Bandelier, we stopped at Overlook Park on our way home. It was quick but fun. The view always makes me feel like I'm living on the edge of the civilized world out here ...

Bandelier for grown-ups

Nana, Uncle, and I went to Bandelier on a whim (the store we wanted to visit, The Black Hole, was closed). Gorgeous day, and fun to spend time together!

I should write more

This week, I'm upping my game. Taking on a challenge. Being Creative (with an intentional capital "C"). Inspired by the Six Word Story Every Day project (examples below), I will be writing a complete story, every day, that contains only six words. That sounds manageable :)
